J from Q!;
This week we spoke to J of the London-based rock band Q! Not only are they one of 08945’s personal favourites, but they are set to feature on not only one, but two of our compilation albums, and we are delighted about this!
Living in London must be tough at the best of times, but trying to make it in such a tough industry, how do you cope?
To be honest, we didn’t cope too well when we started. I worked as a professional actor for years and was becoming quite successful before switching to music and I assumed that Q would be a success pretty quickly.
However, we weren’t. So getting a normal job was a bit weird. I eventually got the hang of the 9-5 madness! We now get through by not putting ourselves under pressure to ‘make’ it but simply to produce good Art!
What has been the weirdest thing thrown onto the stage whilst you were performing?
To be honest, we’ve never had anything thrown onto stage at a gig. We’ve still got that to look forward to!!
What is your honest opinion on the format and ambitions of 08945?
People all over the world love music. We simply don’t have time to trawl through the millions of bands out there and when someone comes along, who’s opinion you trust, you will latch on and not let go. I think 08945 could be that platform.
08945: Thanks for the praise, J! It truly means the world to me that not just music listeners, but people who make great music are enjoying the 08945 ride!
If you weren’t in a rock band, what occupation do you think you’d be doing now?
I’d probably still be an actor. I dreamt of being an actor as a little kid, and when I achieved it I realised I preferred to be myself on stage rather than pretending to be someone else. Although, now that I’ve been out of it for a while I could definitely imagine giving it a go at some point again.
In your spare time, which bands & genres do you most enjoy listening to?
I honestly don’t have a massive preference. I like GOOD music. Something melodic and tuneful whether it’s rap or heavy metal. Although, saying that, my least favourite music to listen to is RnB. Just not a fan of ‘wannabe gangsters’ & ‘Smack my Bitch up’ kinda music.
Esme and I have been married for 9 years. We both wanted to pursue music careers so we thought it a good idea to do it together. When I was on tour doing a show, 3 weeks after getting married, Es came on tour with me, so we’ve had a little taste of what it would be like.
One of our most enjoyable interviews, thus far. Thanks to the charismatic J of Q! Like their Facebook for updates on new releases, tours, videos & much more!
We recently lost our old Facebook fanpage, so please, please, please like our new one?
thanks so much!
On Russian Music
It’s such a cool thing that now Russian independent bands have an opportunity to form their own underground scene. Our young bands are really inspiring. We hope that this music direction will be further developed and find more significant support in the country and elsewhere.
I wish Russian indie bands were more integrated. In this country this process has just began but just few people understand that together we can achieve more.
On The Eurozone Crisis
We’re apolitical but we hope soon the crisis will be over.
We like to create new songs and work on diverse projects together. Our new material will be released soon.
Euro 2012 Winner?
We guess, Spain?! =)))
Thanks, Kyle!!! And good luck with your music blog!
